Here are six tips to not only survive, but help you take advantage of this valuable networking event.

Mix with your dress. After hours of the show could give an interesting dilemma when it comes to dressing. Always check with the event organizers in advance to confirm the clothes that night. If team building activities are planned, it may be helpful to dress more casual. On the other hand, a big party calls for a cocktail dress. If in doubt, the safe bet is to stick with business clothes, like shirts and pants. This is a chance you might not want to “stand out” for your looks!

Be prompt. In your personal life you may choose to come late to the party mode, but this is not an opportunity to make a grand entrance. Treat the event is as important as your customers and the right time. Late shows a complete disrespect for others. And if you think you’re too late, as tied to a task will demonstrate your commitment, think again. What it really says is that you do not know how good management of your time.

Making food choices and proper attention. Just because these foods have on the company dime does not mean the most expensive thing on the menu to order. Taking profits is bad form. As a general practice, I wanted to follow in the footsteps of their seniors to follow me or my clients. Selecting a main course of the road in the price is always a good practice. Also consider the people in your party and the intent of the function when making your choice. If the person next to you is a vegetarian, bloody steak on their face may not be the best way to build relationships with them.

Involve new people in conversation. While some fear the type of events, a great way for new and deeper relationships with people smiths. If you look up a senior executive, or want to know your customers better, try to sit near them. Keep the tone professional conversations – just as it is a social institution does not mean you should let it all hang out. Your professional image is still shaped by what you say and do. But not just talk about the good work. After a long day, people want to talk about things other than work, such as families, interests, or current events. This is a great topic to help you understand each other as individuals, which can lead to increased confidence. But make sure to stay away from politics and religion.

Please note that B & Q (Booz and Queue). It should state the obvious, but at least with colleagues or customers is NOT an opportunity to revive the title as “Frank (or Frances) Tank.” Social drinking is fine, but limit the consumption of a few drinks. If you choose not to drink, but “social” command, you can always order a soda and lime want. No one will ever know. Take your queue from the people in your party. If everyone is ordering a cocktail, feel free to invite one or two if you want. If no one is ordering drinks, may not be appropriate to do so. If wine is the choice of the night may be more suitable for this event.

Not extend your welcome. Finding a balance in how long you live at an event. Rushing out the door to give the impression that you are anti-social, while the lingering too long can be a problem. Understanding the agenda for the evening and looking for a logical exit points, formal events such as missing or if the majority of the people began to leave. Unless you are a once in a lifetime opportunity network, you do not want to be the last to close that night.
